8 Signs You Might Need a Hearing Test

Hearing loss often creeps up slowly, making it easy to miss early warning signs. Catching the problem early can make a big difference. Here are the signs you should not ignore:

  • People sound like they are mumbling.
  • If it often seems like others aren’t speaking clearly, the issue may not be their speech.

  • You misunderstand what people say.
  • Hearing parts of a sentence wrong can lead to awkward or confusing moments, especially if it happens often.

  • You struggle to hear conversations in noisy places (background noise).
  • Restaurants, cafés, and busy streets can become confusing if your ears aren’t picking up sounds properly, resulting in difficulty understanding in groups.

  • You turn the TV or radio up louder than others prefer.
  • If family members or friends complain about the volume.

  • You find phone calls harder to follow.
  • Phones cut out some sound frequencies. It may not be the phone’s fault if you’re struggling more than before.

  • You avoid social events (social isolation).
  • Choosing to stay home instead of joining friends.

  • You feel tired after conversations.
  • Working harder to listen and fill in gaps can leave you feeling drained.

  • Family or friends point out your hearing loss.
  • Loved ones often notice changes before you do.

About Parklands

Parklands is a fast-growing suburb located north of Cape Town, close to Table View and just a short drive from the coast. Known for its mix of townhouses, apartments, and freestanding homes, it’s a popular area for families, young professionals, and first-time buyers. The layout is modern, with wide streets, green spaces, and easy access to shops, schools, and transport.

One of Parklands’ biggest drawcards is its location. It offers a suburban lifestyle while still being near the beach and city. Bloubergstrand’s famous beachfront is just minutes away, making it easy to enjoy weekend walks, surfing, or watching sunsets over Table Mountain.

The area has seen rapid development, with new complexes and businesses appearing regularly. Schools, medical centres, gyms, and restaurants are all nearby, adding to the convenience. MyCiTi bus routes connect Parklands to Cape Town, making commuting more manageable for those who work in the city.

Though modern and growing quickly, Parklands has a friendly, neighbourhood feel. It’s the kind of place where children ride bikes in the street and people walk dogs in the park. As it continues to expand, it remains one of the most accessible and practical places to live in the northern suburbs.
